Welcome to
Riding Warriors
at Sams Ranch
Riding Warriors at Sams Ranch desires to partner with local families who have children with special needs, ages 8-18, to offer spiritual, emotional, and physical support through horse therapy.
Rooted in the belief that horses have the unique ability to heal physically, emotionally, and spiritually, we offer a safe and supportive environment where children can experience growth, empowerment, and connection by combining therapeutic horsemanship with a compassionate, faith-centered approach.
Meet Our Team
-
Visionaries + HostsMichael has loved horses since he was a young child, and he continues to raise, train, and ride them to this day. He, Jill, and their 4 children spend a lot of time horseback riding and maintaining their ranch in Mt. Zion, Illinois. When they have free time from work and sports, they love to trail ride with family and friends in Sand Creek Conservation Area and Shawnee National Forest.
Combining their love for family and horses with their heart for those with special needs, God has faithfully orchestrated the creation of Riding Warriors.

Executive DirectorGrowing up, Kim developed a deep love for horses, and when her children were young, she enjoyed the many adventures that horse ownership would bring. She has welcomed many special kids into her home through fostering and always enjoyed helping them experience the healing that nature and horses can bring.
With 25 years of experience in public safety, and serving many non-profit organizations, she is uniquely prepared to guide our equine therapy program. Her faith drives her passion for this work.
Her side porch welcome mat sums her up perfectly: "I run on coffee and Jesus."
Dolly, a Missouri Foxtrotter, was ridden for years before her owner retired. She has ridden many miles in Shawnee Forest.
Petey is our miniature, 12 year old, gelding. He was used on a fruit farm to pull a cart as the fruit was being harvested.
Joe has been ridden by children of all ages. His patient and calm demeanor has made him a staple go to horse for new riders.
Strengthens Muscles and Improves Balance
Horseback riding strengthens muscles, improves balance, and supports motor skills development for children with physical disabilities.
Improves Coordination and Posture
The rhythmic motion of the horse mimics walking, providing therapeutic benefits for coordination, and posture.
Boosts Focus and Attention
Horse therapy helps children with ADHD improve focus by requiring them to engage with the horse's movements and follow commands.

We strive to help each child experience the joy of living with hope and purpose.

Testimonial:
“I’ve been brought to tears watching her grow, from being timid and scared to riding a horse with support in just 3 sessions. I believe it is truly because of the love, support, guidance, encouragement and heartfelt understanding of everyone involved in Riding Warriors. Thank you for giving my daughter a light to shine and the opportunity to overcome her autism developmental delays with joy!”
-Jonathan Downing
"His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of the warrior; the Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love."
Psalm 147:10-11
